Monday, August 16, 2004 Feeling Patriotic now I have school tomorrow but i'm currently hooked on the Olympic game between Ronald Susilo and Lin Dan. Oh man.. so exciting!!! In this little stadium in Athens, there's a crowd of very enthu chinese do their war cry for China, as opposed to a smaller group of mostly Malay Singaporeans and Mr Teo Chee Hean cheering away. Lin Dan is currently acting very scarily. I can see why he was the world champion man.. He pushed the score from 13-9 to 13-12 in like 5 minutes.. Nevertheless! Our beloved Ronald Susilo just took the first set 15-12. He rocks! Tim should see this with his enthusiasm in badminton and all. Susilo appears more passive than his World No. 1 competitor. Lin Dan's like some Lion and his golden mane just adds to it. And do you know Lin Dan is left-handed? Susilo was thrashing his right-hand side just now and he was running for his life. But Lin Dan really has technique.. He can slide-and-hit, dive-and-hit and hit back Susilo's shuttlecock in 0.4seconds 10cm from his face. However, Lin Dan's getting quite tired now, you can see it in his face. Susilo is thrashing him 9-2 in the second set. The chinese coach is looking quite worried. The poor Chinese boy is looking quite demoralised now. This is so going to be worth sleeping in class tomorrow. Back to Susilo. He rarely exerts himself and his shots are mostly quite light, compared to Lin Dan's more powerful strokes. Their wrists are so flexible there are probably no bones in there. Wooo.. the cleaners are mopping the sweat off the floor. Looks like there's a glimmer of hope for Singapore to win a medal after taking a 44 year holiday in Pulau Ubin. I can hear the distinctive "Oleh, Oleh Oleh Oleh" echoing in the background. A code only known to those who've stepped on our sunny shores. The lady reading out the scores looks like an auntie cashier from NTUC fairprice. AH!! Match point for Ronald in the second round! Ahhh!! He get's it! He won the second set too, beating the top seed. There he goes smiling with his crazy Singapore fans screaming away. And there goes the top player in the world back to China. a ranting by Eugene at 12:41 AM |
